Hitachi Semiconductors Factory Tour
On 26 April 2024, IEEE EPFL Student Branch and IEEE ETHZ Student Branch organized a visit to the Hitachi Semiconductor factory in Lenzburg. This event was reserved for IEEE members, and 20 participants, including the organizers, took part.
For EPFL participants, the organizing committee reserved train tickets and provided a packed lunch for the journey. The visit began with a presentation by Tobias Keller and Marie Sanglé-Ferrière, who introduced Hitachi Energy, explained core principles of power electronics, and highlighted the range of products manufactured at the facility.
Following the presentation, attendees participated in a guided tour of the factory, which allowed to take a look at the clean rooms and the equipment involved in semiconductor production. This experience offered valuable insights into the complexity and precision required in the manufacturing process.
The visit concluded with an apero hosted by Hitachi Energy, where attendees had the opportunity to discuss further with Tobias and Marie in a more informal setting. Participants appreciated the hospitality of Hitachi Energy, as well as the chance to engage directly with industry professionals and deepen their understanding of the field.
