IEEE 5th World Forum on Internet of Things
15-18 April 2019 – Limmerick, Ireland


Within the IEEE 5th World Forum on Internet of Things,
the WF-IoT 2019 Doctoral Symposium aims at providing
a supportive setting in which PhD students can present
and receive feedback on their work. Students at different
stages in their research will be able to articulate and
discuss their problem statement, goals, methods, and
The symposium also aims to provide students with useful
guidance on various aspects of their research from
established researchers and the other student attendees.
Finally, the symposium seeks to motivate students in the
development of their scientific curiosity and facilitate
their networking within the research community.
The PhD symposium also aims to facilitate networking
among researcher in the WF-IoT community and help
students establish contacts for entering the job market.
PhD Symposium attendance is open to all WF-IoT registrants.

Submission Instructions

How to Submit
Paper on PhD research project (max. 2-4 pages) must
be formatted according to the WF-IoT paper submission
A letter of recommendation from the supervisor must be
attached to the proposal submission as well as full
contact information including affiliation, address,
e-mail and phone.
Papers must be submitted electronically via EDAS.

Paper Submission Due Date: 30 November 2018 (extended)
Paper Acceptance Notification: 15 January 2019
Camera-Ready Submission: 20 February 2019

20-21.10.2018 IEEEXtreme 12.0 24h non-stop programming competition at EPFL

If you are an EPFL student (undergraduate, graduate or PhD student) please consider joining us for the famous (could I say epic?) 12th edition of IEEEXtreme international online programming competition to be held at EPFL starting on 20th of October 2018 at 2 am for 24 hours non-stop in room CO5! EPFL teams won in 2016-2017 and we are looking for the next team to win it for EPFL for the third time in a row! 08.10.2018 IEEE Day Celebration at EPFL, Adrien Palaz auditorium, Lausanne, Switzerland

Dr. Maria-Alexandra Paun delivered a talk about IEEE and WIE with a strong emphasis on Women in Engineering at the IEEE Day Celebration at EPFL. She helped organize this full day event locally and the IEEE Switzerland Section was happy to have more than 50 attendees (with 5 women) at this meeting with the theme “Airborne electrical robots”. In October 2nd 2017, the same celebration of IEEE Day at EFPL, organized by Maria-Alexandra Paun, focused entirely on Women in Engineering with 6 speakers and round table discussion.

A very happy IEEE Day  to all IEEE members in general and to IEEE Switzerland members in particular! I am personally very grateful to be part of this vibrant community. Don't forget to join us at EPFL on 8th of October for our own celebrations.

10-13.2018 Participation in RTSI 2018 conference, Palermo, Italy

Dr. Maria-Alexandra Paun attended the RTSI 2018 conference in Italy, had a technical paper and proposed and chaired a technical talk on “Distributed ICT for health and well-being”. This was also a great opportunity to promote R8 WIE and talk to fellow Women Engineers from around the world but also share good practices with Italy WIE AG. It is worth mentioning that this is an inter-section collaboration, as IEEE Switzerland provided technical co-sponsorship.

29.06.2018 IEEE Switzerland and IEEE Swiss WIE at Tech4Dev Conference 2018 

Dr. Maria-Alexandra Paun gave a talk about IEEE Switzerland with emphasis on Women in Engineering. We could do more in order to increase the 5% of female members in Switzerland. She has been invited to present IEEE Switzerland and participate in a panel entitled "Terre des hommes: How Digital Innovations will impact Humanitarian Activities" on 29th of June, during the Tech4Dev conference, held at SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne on 27-29 June 2018. The Tech4Dev is Conference by UNESCO Chair in Technologies for Development: Voices of the Global South.

25.06.2018 Talk at IEEE ISPDC 2018 Conference in Geneva 

Dr. Maria-Alexandra Paun gave a talk about IEEE Switzerland with emphasis on Women in Engineering. We could do more in order to increase the 5% of female members in Switzerland. This talk was given at ITU (International Telecommunications Union) in Geneva, during the ISPDC 2018 conference, to which IEEE Switzerland Section has provided technical co-sponsorship.

20-22.06.2018 Swiss WIE at Crypto Valley Conference on Blockchain Technology 2018

Maria-Alexandra Paun's talk on 21st of June was a moment for the audience to get to know IEEE Switzerland Section and its activities. Moreover, our IEEE Switzerland Section and WIE booth were also a success. It was great to have this visibility to around 800 attendees.

08.03.2018 Swiss WIE booth at EPFL International Women's Day  

IEEE Switzerland Chair, Dr. Maria-Alexandra Paun, joined by Hugo Wyss, Chair of Life Members group, participated in the International Women's Day at EPFL with an informative and promotional material about WIE in general ans Swiss WIE in particular.
